[Project] Indent Source Code

indent source code

A few weeks ago, I started a new web project, inspired by my experience working as a digital project manager with development-heavy agencies. IndentSourceCode.com is a free web development tool which allows you to code more efficiently by converting poorly formatted code to a version easier to read.

The Purpose

Web developers can have a hard time working with source they haven’t seen before, which should be no surprises. However, it could be exponentially more difficult to work with code which is not properly formatted. Consider writing a novel where the first half the book was written by another author without grammar. Indent Source Code properly formats the code to make each line (or thought) easier to read. Perfect for tackling code from another developer.

Upcoming Features?

There were a few items on my initial feature list which didn’t make it to my short list for Phase 1 of IndentSourceCode.com. Let me know which of the below you’d like to see, or if you have suggestions for something not yet mentioned.

  1. HTML formatting
  2. XML formatting
  3. Copy to clipboard
  4. Download to file
  5. Integration with online collaboration tools (such as collabedit or pastebin)

Technology Disclosure

Although I will not be releasing the code for the project at this time, I have a full technology disclosure which outlines all third-party plugins and concepts used in the production of IndentSourceCode.com which is available at: http://www.indentsourcecode.com/about

 Feedback

If you have any comments about the site, please let me know in the comments or by e-mail. IndentSourceCode.com is intended to be a one-time project, which occupied an afternoon for me. But I am happy to gather your feedback and thoughts to expand on this in future.
